The Situation

A regional grid operator in the German energy sector — an operator of critical infrastructure in a highly regulated environment — needed to digitize how customers request grid connections and register photovoltaic systems. These processes ran on manual, form-driven workflows that scaled poorly as Germany's solar boom drove request volumes up.

As Fullstack Engineer for .NET & Dynamics 365 within a Lead Consultant engagement at Acando/CGI, I was part of the team that built the customer-facing self-service portals for these processes from the ground up.


What I Did

Greenfield portal development — Designed and built B2C and B2B self-service portals from scratch, covering photovoltaic system onboarding, grid connection requests, and related energy-sector business processes, using ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET Core, C#, JavaScript, HTML, and SCSS.

Dynamics 365 integration — Developed the backend integration layer connecting the portals with Dynamics 365: custom data access layers, business logic, and REST APIs that carry portal workflows into the CRM and back.

Dynamics 365 customization — Implemented and maintained entity models, form configurations, security roles, business rules, solution management, and environment deployments — keeping customizations upgrade-compatible.

Process digitization with the business — Worked directly with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to translate manual onboarding and grid connection procedures into streamlined digital workflows.

Production ownership — Maintained business-critical applications throughout the engagement: resolving production issues, delivering new features, and contributing to architecture and solution design.

  • Portal and CRM work as one system: portal submissions flow directly into Dynamics 365 workflows, eliminating duplicate data entry
